Description of the session:
We need to take a closer look at how we teach Web "design" in our schools today. Many institutions do not even show CMS or focus only on the "hard" skills of web authoring (HTML, CSS, etc.). With the steady increase in enrollments in non-traditional four-year colleges, we must give today's students what they need to succeed in the world from the first day.

Ask yourself if students in photography or culinary arts need to know HTML when all they want is to get their wallets online? Why do we start with the basic code, then introduce the CMS instead of introducing the CMS and urge students to build something from the first day? (Then showing them the basic skills they need to expand and customize).

This presentation will look at the different implementations used in schools today as well as some of the workflows and leads proposed today. In the world of Squarespace, Wix and Weebly we owe it to our students to do better and give them practical skills from day one.
