If you need to create a pie chart, create a bar graph or if you need to know how to make a chart, consider using a template. Using a template is the best way to produce a presentation that’s not only professional but doesn’t waste your time creating a graph from scratch.
Using charts and graphs in your presentation helps the audience visualize what you’re saying. Data visualization is essential because it helps people understand when they can imagine the data being presented. They understand the topic being presented better.
Professionally-designed charts and graphs can be found in many Envato Elements and GraphicRiver templates.

6 Different Types of Charts & Graphs: When to Use Them
There are many different types of charts that you can create and add to your Google Slices presentation. In this tutorial, we’ll focus on six of them:
1. Vertical Bar Charts
Vertical bar charts can help compare different sets of data. However, this type of chart is best if you don’t have many different sets of data to analyze. This chart has the bars of data right next to each other. An example of when to use a vertical bar chart is to track album sales by band and how many sold. Along one side you’d have the name of the album. Along the bottom you’d have how many units sold.
2. Stacked Bar Charts
Stacked bar charts have the bars of data stacked on top of each other. A stacked bar chart is great if you want to present data within a group and compare the data within that group. An example of when to use a stacked bar chart is when comparing sales strategies between four different strategies and four different products. You’d stack the product sales on top, and each strategy would have separate bar. Along the side you’d have the sales amount.
3. Bar Graph
You can use a column chart to compare different items, or you can show a comparison of the things over a period of time. The bar graph is just like a vertical bar chart, but going up and down instead of from side to side. An example of when to use a bar graph is looking at fruit stand sales. You chose the fruits you want to compare the sales of along the bottom. On the vertical side of the graph put the amount of sales. You can color each bar and the bar color can match up with the year it represents.
4. Line Graph
A line graph is great to show progress over time. With a line graph, you can show several different categories. An example of when to use a line graph is if you’re looking at how many muffins sold each day of the week. Along one side you’d put how many units sold. Along the bottom put each day of the week. Then place dots that match up with the data. Next connect the dots. Now you can see the progress of the muffins sold throughout the week.
5. Pie Chart
A pie chart is great to use when you’ve got data in percentages. This chart is also great if your data all belong in one category. This type of chart works best when your percentages add up to 100 percent. An example of when to use a pie chart is the percentages of the types of animals in an apartment complex. Each type of animal is a percentage and has a piece of the pie.
6. Data Chart
This chart can be used to show multiple sets of complex data. This chart will help your audience be able to visualize the data. An example of when to use a data chart is keeping track of animals in a wildlife sanctuary. In one column, you’ve got the animals. Each column after that’s a zone. Each row says how many animals are in each zone. The bottom row is the total number of animals in each column.
How to Quickly Create Charts & Graphs From Professional Templates
If you’ve been researching how to make a graph on google slides or for bar graph examples or pie chart examples, stop looking! Customizing a template saves you the time it takes to create a chart from scratch. Using premium template also gives you a professional result in less time.
In this section, you’ll learn how to quickly create three types of charts and graphs from a professional Google Slides template. For this tutorial, we used the Public Google Slides Template from Envato Elements. But if you don’t like the template we used as an example, there are hundreds of other templates to choose from on Envato Elements and GraphicRiver.
1. How to Quickly Create a Pie Chart With a Google Slides Template
We’ll start by customizing a pie chart template slide. Let’s start with slide #137.
This is what the pie chart template looks like without any changes. You’ll learn how to create a pie chart that fits your needs by customizing this slide design.
For the illustration in this article, I am going to change the pie chart to show pet ownership in an apartment. Make sure that the data falls under one category. If you try to use data in more than one category, then it could be confusing.
Pie charts can be used for any data where the percentages add up to 100 percent. First, the title will need to be changed. To change the title, double click inside the text box (it appears as a blue-outlined box) for the title. Highlight and type what you want to say over the existing text.
To edit the subtitle underneath the title double click inside the text box for the subtitle. If you don’t want a subtitle, use Delete key on your keyboard to remove the text.
Using the box for the image, you can also adjust the size of your chart. If you want your pie chart to look like a classic pie chart without the white circle in the middle, then click on the inner box.
Once you’ve identified which frame is the inner one, click on the frame in one of the corners. Right click on the frame and click Delete on your keyboard.
Your chart should look like a standard pie chart. Now you can add percentages and change the amount of the pie slices. Change the percentage numbers the same way the title was changed. Click over the current number, highlight and delete what’s in the text box. Then, type the new number you need.
To change how big the pie slice is in the pie chart click on the handles at the edge of one of the slices (it looks like an orange diamond). Then move the handle to where you need to make the pie slice bigger or smaller.
Now you’ve got a professional pie chart without searching on the internet for instructions on how to make a pie chart. And by using a pie chart template instead of making one from scratch, you saved a lot of time. If you’re interested in adding other charts to your Google Slides presentation, keep reading.
2. How to Quickly Create a Bar Graph With a Google Slides Template
Next, we’ll look at how to quickly create a bar graph using a template in Google Slides. Below is what the graph looks like without any changes. You’ll find the bar graph template on slide #94.
For the purpose of this tutorial, I’ll be changing the graph to illustrate fruit stand sales. Follow the bar graph examples closely to learn how to customize this slide.
To change the title, click on the text box. Highlight it and type the title you want over the existing text. To edit the subtitle, which is the smaller words under the title, type over the text that’s already there. Select the text box that comes up to change the length and shape of the box.
You can also type the subtitle that you want to use in the box. If you’re going to get rid of the subtitle, select the text box. Right click on the text box and click Delete on your keyboard.
Click on the text box to change any of the text on the slide. To delete any text that you may not want, click on the text box of the text that you want to remove. Right click on the text box and click Delete. To change the height of a bar on the bar graph, click on the bar you want to change.
Click on the middle text box to adjust the height of your bar. You can use the handles on the blue box (frame) that surrounds the bar to make the bar taller or shorter.
Next, you can change the color of the bar on the bar graph. Highlight which bar you want to change the color of by clicking on the bar.
To change the color of the selected bar on your bar graph. Click the Shape Fill icon in the toolbar. Once you click on Shape Fill, a menu will drop down. Select the color you want to change the bar on your bar graph to.
Choose a color that matches the theme of your presentation. Change the color in the key to match your graph by selecting the box that you want to change the color of. Next, choose Shape Fill from the toolbar. Choose the same color that you chose for your bar graph.
Now you’ve made a customized bar graph. No need to search on the internet for how to make a bar graph because using a premium template is quicker than trying to create your own. Again, you’ll find that using a bar graph template saved you time.
3. How to Quickly Create a Data Chart With a Google Slides Template
Next, you’ll learn how to create a data chart. This based on slide #84 in our template.
Below is what the data chart looks like without any changes to the data chart template. Data charts are a great tool to use when you’ve got multiple sets of data. Using a data chart can help your audience visualize the data that you’re presenting.
For the purpose of this tutorial, I’ll be changing the chart to look at statistics about animals in a wildlife sanctuary.
The first item that you may want to change on the data chart template is the title. To change the title, you click on the already existing title text. Type what you want the subtitle to be. Then click the text box (blue box) to change the length or size of the text box. To delete text, click on the text box and click the Delete key on your keyboard to remove the unwanted text.
Next, to change the description, click inside the box. Once you’ve clicked inside the box, hit backspace on your keyboard until the previous text is gone. The description box is where you put the title or description of the data you’re going to put into the chart.
Now that you’ve added the description, you’ll want to add the data. Add data the same way you added a description. Click on the text inside the box and click Delete until all the previous text is gone. Once the previous text is gone, add the data you’d like inside the box. Once you’ve added the data into the box, you’ll need to change the column titles.
To edit the column titles, click inside a cell and highlight the already existing title. Hit Delete on your keyboard. Now type in the title that you’d like to put in that column. You’ve just changed the title in the first box. Repeat this step for the other boxes. The next thing to do is change the color of the column headings.
Place your mouse inside the heading of the column you’d like to change the color of and click. Once you’ve clicked inside the box of the column that you want to change the color of click the Shape Fill icon in the toolbar.
Once you click the Shape Fill icon, a menu will drop down, as shown above. Click the box of the color that you’d like to change to.
Now you’ve successfully changed the bar graph template, pie chart template, and data chart template to fit your presentation needs.
