How Do I Install Jetpack?

The easiest way to install Jetpack is to use the online installer. First, let’s do a quick walkthrough:

  • Click “Install Jetpack” on the next page. This will lead you to your WordPress dashboard. Here you must click “Install Plugin” to complete the process.
  • Click “Activate” after the plugin has been installed.
  • To connect your website to WordPress.com, you’ll get the following alert:

  • When you click ‘Connect to WordPress.com.’ It will transport you to WordPress.com. Here you can either create an account or sign in with the one you already have.
  • It will confirm that you’re happy to link the site to this user after making an account or log in to your account and then returning you to your site.
  • You should now see a new ‘Jetpack’ dashboard menu item on your dashboard. This allows you to decide which functions you use.

Users of the WP-CLI can also install Jetpack with this command: wp plugin install jetpack.

Using JetPack to Create WordPress Backups (Formerly VaultPress)

Installing and activating the VaultPress plugin is the first step. See our step-by-step guide on installing a WordPress plugin for more information.

After activation, go to the WP admin sidebar and click the VaultPress menu item. This will take you to the plugin’s configuration page. To proceed, click the ‘View plans and pricing’ option.

This will take you to the VaultPress website, where you can view the JetPack Personal plan cost. To continue, click the Get Started button.

On the following screen, type your website address and then click the ‘Start Installation’ option.

The administrator login and password for your WordPress website will be requested next. This information is only used for installation purposes and will not be saved.

It will now install jetPack on your WP site immediately, and you will be taken to the payment page. To continue, click the ‘Pay’ button after entering your payment information.

Following payment, the setup will continue, and it will configure your website’s backups. When you’re done, click the ‘Back to your site’ button.

Note: VaultPress may take a few minutes to complete the initial backup before it displays on this page. This depends on the contents of your website.

Providing VaultPress with access to your server is a must.

VaultPress requires server access to restore backups and improve efficiency. You’ll need to go to the VaultPress dashboard to do so.

You’ll need to go to the Settings page and enter your SSH or SFTP credentials from there. You can find this information in the email your hosting provider sent you when you signed up.

You’ll also be prompted to add SSH keys to your server by VaultPress. If you’re using a shared hosting service, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to create that file.

This file adds an extra layer of protection. If you are unable to add those SSH keys. VaultPress will be able to connect to your server using the SFTP information you have supplied.

Don’t forget to save your credentials by clicking the Save button.

Note that you can continue to use Jetpack without giving your WP hosting server access. The benefit of enabling your SFTP access is that it makes VaultPress run more effectively. This will help you restore your site faster if you have a large site.

Using JetPack and VaultPress to restore a WordPress backup

VaultPress makes it simple to restore a backup of your WordPress site. Navigate to JetPack » VaultPress and select the ‘Visit Dashboard’ option.
